Mobile consular services for Kenyans in Dakar: a State Department diaspora initiative

In April 2024, the State Department’s Diaspora Affairs Bureau, based in Nairobi, launched a mobile consular services operation in Dakar, Senegal. This initiative aimed to bring consular services closer to Kenyans living in West Africa, thereby facilitating their administrative procedures.

Thanks to this mobile mission, Kenyan nationals whose passports were lost, expired, or damaged were able to renew, replace, or apply for a passport for the first time in record time. This operation significantly reduced the usual delays and eased the constraints associated with traveling to other embassies or consulates.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Kenyan government to improve access to consular services for its diaspora around the world. The Department of State’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Diaspora Affairs continues its efforts to expand such initiatives with the aim of improving protection, assistance, and outreach to Kenyan citizens living abroad.
